Project Life. Love.

I love the idea and really it is the way I have scrapped my pages over the past few years. Sharing a little bit about us, telling our stories and sharing the photos. Now I am committed to the project in its entirety with Project Life. Becky Higgins explains the memory keeping method on her website. Several of my scrapping friends are doing the project and I just couldn't resist. Some are doing the core paper edition, some are doing a hybrid version and some like me are doing it the digital way! There are so many fabulous digital products out there that I knew this was the way I was going to go. And even though I was tempted to purchase the core kit and do a paper version it just isn't me anymore and I knew I wouldn't be happy. The hardest part really was deciding on the templates. I really love these and bought a few to start and then decided I wanted my project to really look more Project Life-like so I went with the templates by Becky Higgins offered at jessicasprague.com .

Here is my completed Week 1 - I love how it turned out!

Recently I participated in one of the challenges that The Digi Dares post on a weekly basis. I was added to the Creative Team in July of this year. We were challenged to create a layout using a Mondrian Painting as our design composition.

DARE FLAIR:

In addition to a Mondrian design composition your layout should also include -
1. 1 circle photo in a square or 3 circle photos arranged in a rectangle. You may use additional photos any way you like.
2. One of your photo must be black and white.
3. Journaling in one of the squares or rectangles.
4. Your journaling text must use a sans serif font
5. Your title text must use a serif font, but you can mix and match fonts and alphas.

Digi Dare #244

Adjectives
Adjectives = Descriptive words. One of my son’s teachers gave us an assignment at back-to-school night to write down a list of words that describe our child. The first 3 or 4 were easy to come up with, but it got more and more difficult as I sat there trying to think of things. But it was fun to really think about my son and think about all the different words that could describe him, good and bad.
This week I want you choose a person you are close to and come up with at least TEN adjectives that describe them! Be sure to think of words to describe the good and the bad.
Dare Flair:

Use at least one photo of your chosen person – make it black & white!
Use at least 10 different adjectives, some good and some bad!
Arrange the adjectives so that they are somehow scattered around the photo(s) of your person on at least three sides.
Use a different font or piece of wordart for each word.
Think of a color that reminds you of this person and make that the dominant color on your layout.

A love affair with BasicGrey

anyone who knows me from my paper scrapping days know that I have a bit of an addiction with BasicGrey.....I bought every single paper they released, and alphabets - I have plenty. As I made the transition over to digital, I started to sell, donate or give to family many of my paper supplies, but one of the few things I could not get rid of was my BasicGrey. It still sits in my paper rack, just begging me to use it. I still do, creating a few cards or mini albums occasionally, but digital is really my creative outlet. Naturally when BasicGrey started releasing digital kits I knew I could get myself in trouble with my credit card, but started picking up a few kits anyway and incorporating them into my designs.

The new BasicGrey Blog was introduced by Melanie with the announcement of a BasicGrey design team opportunity. I sent in my application and waited (like many of you). Well today, the wait is finally over. I am a member of the BasicGrey Digital Design Team, and I am thrilled!! I can't wait to share with you all of my creations.

I first saw these on Pinterest , I pinned them and ran out and bought the supplies. That was a couple of months ago, but today I decided to take the time to make them. : ) next time I will find a foam board that isn't so thick - they were a little hard to cut!

1. First I created individual photos using the polaroid frame download (scroll to the bottem of this post)

2. Then I printed them out on 4x6 photo paper

3. Then I cut to foam board 4x6 and used my Xyron to adhere the photo to the foam board. I then used my exacto knife to cut the individual photos out. I placed a 1" square magnet on the back of each one.

4. Are these not the cutest! thanks to ambrosiagirl for the inspiration. I will be making more of these for family and friends.

And now on to my dare – childhood toys:
I was on vacation last week and one of the major projects we tackled was our kids’ playroom – getting it all sorted, organized, and repainted (including some fun chalkboard paint panels). As I looked at the mess of toys strewn across the floor, I found myself remembering some of my favorite childhood toys.
My challenge for you this week is to create a page that is centered around one of YOUR favorite childhood toys. What is it that made it special? Who gave it to you? Was it something you were longing for, or a big surprise?
Dare Flair:
- Include at least one photo. Although it would be fantastic if you happen to have a photo of you with your toy, stock photography is fine!
- Since this layout is meant to celebrate childhood, choose at least two bright colors and make those the main colors in your layout (along with neutrals such as black, white or kraft).
- You absolutely must journal on your page! Tell us about that toy and your relationship to it. Give us at least five sentences of journaling, please!
- Use at least one interesting border or edge on your page – scallops, reverse scallops, a torn or jagged edge, a cutout design – be creative!
- Use at least two fonts in your title. One should be significantly larger than the other – think of your title as a piece of word art.

The Breakfast Rush
Project 365. A Week in the Life. There are so many great ideas out there to motivate and inspire us to get “real life” onto our pages! Most of the time, I hear about these things after they’ve already started and I end up feeling guilty because I know I’m missing out on something I’d love to scrap along with. I just don’t have the time! But who says I have to follow these things perfectly?! Lately I’ve been trying not to be such a darn perfectionist. Why am I stopping myself from scrapping because I can’t perfectly follow a plan?! Oh, my silly brain…
Well, this week I hope you’ll join me in scrapping about a little piece of our lives! I’ve always thought it would be fun to make a page about what meal times are like in our house. It would be fun to look back at a page like that in ten years and see how much has changed. I’m sure my table will be very different then–I’ll have two teenagers and two pre-teens!
So, that’s your super simple challenge this week: Scrap about The Breakfast Rush! What’s breakfast time like in your house? Is it crazy and busy? Or relaxing? Or do you skip breakfast? What would you like your mornings to look like if you could change things? There are all sorts of angles to approach this topic from!
Dare Flair:
- You must have at least one photo! If you have kids, capture them in the act of devouring breakfast. If you plan to make a page about yourself, take a picture of your favorite breakfast food (don’t worry–you don’t have to take a picture of yourself before you’ve had any coffee! Although, that would be a great thing to capture, too!). Give it some thought–what kind of picture will best suit what you want to write about on your page?
- Convert your photo to Black & White. If you use more than one photo, then only one photo has to be B&W (unless you’d like for all the photos to be B&W because it fits).
- Journaling is also a must! We love embellishments. They are so much fun! But remember–if you don’t journal, you are simply embellishing a photo… nothing more. Don’t forget to record the memories!
- I’d like you to play with patterned papers for this challenge! Try to work at least six patterned papers into your design.
- Add some sort of “handwriting” to your page–either a handwriting font or a piece of handwritten word art.
Gold Stars:
- I’d like to encourage you to go beyond this one challenge and also scrap a page all about lunch time and dinner time as well! It’s certainly not required. But I think you’d enjoy it! Then you’ll have yourself a nice little set of “Real Life” pages… sort of like a time capsule to look back on as the years go by…

When I started this layout about Madison's birth experience I wasn't sure what direction I was going to go. I wondered about what my friends and family might think about my journaling. Then I shared it with my sweet husband and got a hug, a nod and complete agreement with what I said. It felt good to get some of this out - what has been bottled up for safe keeping within myself for many years. If it changes the way you think about me, that is okay. I didn't do this for you. I did it for me.

Digital Creative Team layout share

I am really hoping to update more regularly and do a little renovating over the next week!

As a member of the Digital Creative Team at two peas in a bucket I am responsible for showcasing new digital kits each week - I commit to as many projects as I think I can. Because there has been so much digital goodness released lately I find myself wanting to create with everything. Not so bad, except that I find little things like house cleaning, grocery shopping and then actually taking the time to make the memories always seem to take a back seat to creating and being with my family. Because of that I am going to try and limit myself each week and try and do a bit a scrapping just for me.

when I saw my friend Nana Z post this over at Designer Digitals I knew I need to do one as well. So many layouts created for 2010 for my position on the Creative Team over at two peas in a bucket that I knew I wanted to focus on that. So I went to Shape Collage and download their free software, uploaded all my 2010 layouts and watched it transform.

and I have been busy, busy, busy. The holiday season arrived rather quickly and it is hard to believe that there is only 5 more days until Christmas!!

I have been creating for Two Peas and Biograffiti and will get all my layouts updated soon.

I did want to share a new project I just finished for Molly of Biograffiti. I too am a failure at the Project 365, but had a ton of photos that I wanted to share. Molly created a template set "My Life & Story" that you can pick up at Oscraps today. I loved this idea for 2010 and spent the past week+ creating like crazy. I love the final results and can't wait to add more pages for December and get it printed at Shutterfly. I know the journaling is difficult to read (or impossible) - but when I have time, I will upload all the pages individually.

I will be back this week with my creative share of other layouts I have completed. In the meantime, get your wrapping done - Christmas is almost here!!!

Changes

lots of changes going on in my house right now....but we are adjusting and making the most of it. It will be good - good for us, good for health and good for prosperity. Hopefully there will be lots of changes in State and Federal Government after the elections tomorrow. Please remember to get out and vote. One of the most important things you can do.

We had an uneventful Halloween. Hayden is at that age where dressing up is boring, nothing really going on. Two old for trick or treating and to young for adult parties. We watched football and did some laundry, handing out a bit of candy during the evening to the few treaters who stopped by.

oh wait - it already did. The older I get the quicker these months fly by. Before you know it we will be planning our December Daily and managing Christmas lists.

This past week at two peas in a bucket we had more new releases. I am still finishing up my coffee cup album-leaves by Wilna Furstenberg and should get it posted tomorrow when I can take some photos in daylight.

I posted this layout morning commute using Jo Hanna's new digital kit "early morning rain"

I wanted to share the information about the layout and journaling as well:

Jo Hanna's new digital kit - "early morning rain" has so many options. You could go in so many directions, but this layout has been in my head for awhile and when I saw the full alphabet that is included I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

I created the extension of the center line using a portion of one of the strokes included. I also used a mask from the Picture Perfect Vol. 2 - The tuscon masks

Journaling:
Regardless of the season, I make a 28 mile drive each day along State Highway M28 to work. During the school year I also make a stop and drop Madison to and from school. It is a drive, I think, I could do with my eyes closed. Just imagine the time and miles I have spent in my vehicle!!I try catching up on cable news, sports, and finding out what the new #1 Top 40 song is this week. It can also be relaxing, giving me time to clear my mind and plan for the day ahead. In the winter it can be a terrible drive, rated one of the worst in Michigan, but I just buckle up, drive defensive and try and enjoy my morning commute.

I am so happy that everyone is back in school and we can all get back into our everyday routine. AA Midget hockey tryouts will be in the next week and then everything will really feel back to normal.

Pamela Funk Parr - with Scrap Originals released a gorgeous new kit "Pause" this week at Two Peas in a Bucket . I love the colors and fun elements and am so fortunate to be part of her Creative Team.

One of the things I have to remind myself is not to get so caught up in the junk, but Pause and remember the everyday little things. I hope you do to.

We went Back to School shopping in Appleton and Hayden was able to invite Abby to come along. Before we headed home on Sunday, we paused for a little photo shoot.

this past week a new Designer, Jo Hanna, joined us at Two Peas in a Bucket!! I am beyond thrilled with her designs. So completely me!

The first one I did was summer lovin' - I love that Hayden and his girlfriend Abby let me take their photos. They are so cute together. It features The Memory Lane Collection

next is a layout of my great niece Jenna - she is the daughter of my niece Hollie. We got to see her this summer. I only wish they all lived closer (and my sister Teresa too) so we could see them everyday. walk uses Jo Hanna's The February Leap Collection . we had a small release this past week at Two Peas in a Bucket but a little bird told me we have a few new designers joining us soon. Looking forward to that.

Vinnie Pearce is one of my favorite designers - I just love her new release this week, Journey Back - I love so much about this kit and hope to collect and work on recording my own childhood memories. In the meantime I am recording my son Hayden's (with his girlfriend Abby) and a few of my precious childhood photos.

seriously I sometimes have to pinch myself when good fortune comes my way. I am feeling pretty confident and excited by all the fabulous opportunities that sharing memories, recording the moments and telling the stories by scrapbooking have come my way recently....

I love being on the Digital Creative Team at Two Peas in a Bucket . I am able to create with some pretty fantastic designs, by some of the best designers in all of digi land. Pamela Funk-Parr is one of those designers and recently I was asked to be a part of her creative team for Scrap Originals . Such a fabulous opportunity with such a great team. I also applied for a guest design team spot with Vinnie Pearce and was selected for the month of October. Another fabulous opportunity for me. See what I mean - pinch me!!

Another small but fun release this past week at Two Peas in a Bucket , Kerry Stewart released a fabulous new kit - Reading Adventure. I was able to document some of my summer reading books!!

seriously where did July go? that was so fast and before you know it we will be thinking about back to school. It is probably a good thing we don't start up in Michigan until after Labor Day - so about 5 more weeks left to enjoy!!

I have been busy preparing for the Primary Election, which is tomorrow in Michigan, but you know I will always find time for scrapping.

The past two weeks we have had small releases at Two Peas in a Bucket , but they have been so fabulous and inspiring to work with.

I first discovered Molly a/k/a Biograffiti and her fantastic templates a few months back over at her previous store. I love how versatile they were and bought several. I might have become a bit obsessed over them actually, following her on Facebook as well. Then she moved her store over to OScraps a site I have been known to frequent every week, especially on Monday's for the new releases. Some of my favorites shops at O'Scraps are Paislee Press and TaylorMade Designs. Well last week I got a private message on Facebook from Molly and she asked me to be a part of her Creative Team!! woot! woot! So today I am celebrating by posting a few recent layouts using Molly's kits and templates. Once the gallery reopens at O'Scraps I will be updating there as well.

in the heat of summer . . .

we have been busy trying to stay cool and cleaning and doing laundry and getting to the beach. Summer is always so busy and there is never enough time during the week to get everything done. I do manage, as so to maintain my sanity, some time to scrap. That is one of the main reasons that I love digital scrapbooking. You can sit down and work on a project for 5 minutes or 5 hours, and the only mess you make is the one in your head.

This past week at Two Peas in a Bucket we had 10 new releases. I got to work with new digital kits by Scrap Originals and their "everyday" kit, Brandy Buffington's kit "Spirit of '76" and a fun new template, White Space No. 7 by Jen Martakis.

yesterday we celebrated the 4th of July. We had fabulous weather for the parade (actually a bit too hot) but by the time the fireworks were scheduled it started raining, pouring actually and they were canceled until tonight. Except it is raining again. I just received word they have now been rescheduled for Friday night.

We had some fabulous new releases this past week at Two Peas in a Bucket Betsy Tuma released several themed kits and a gorgeous new DigiKit - Garden Party - by Brandy Buffington was also released.

and a creative share . . . we are finally getting into our summer routine. Hayden is doing a fabulous job with Madison during the day! I am getting home from work before 5:00, getting things picked up and dinner on, so Hayden can get ready to leave for summer skate. His 2nd invitation only tryout for Marquette Electrician's AAA Hockey start July 1st. This is really good experience for him so he has an idea of what these elite teams are looking for in tryouts.

I am finding it a bit harder to keep up with my assignments, but since it is light so late, well who needs sleep anyway.

My layouts for this past week at Two Peas in a Bucket are fun, with a bit of grunge. I am still putting the finishing touches on a Welcome Home Baby album by Scrap Originals, that I hope to finish tonight.

and a little update. We spent most of Saturday getting all the flowers planted, the garden in and mowing the lawn. When I came home from work today I thought, man it really does look good. Although we have a rather short summer and growing season, I just love this time of year. I can already taste the fresh green beans from the garden. And to keep those deer from helping themselves, my mom suggested "liquid fence" - I hope she is right. I was so completely bummed out last year when they helped themselves to our almost ripe kohlrabi : (

Is it "real" or is it Digital?

I have been thinking about this question since I first read a post over at Two Peas in a Bucket in the General Scrappin forum. I never really thought much about it, but than I began to question my craft and my ability. Is there really a difference? and does it really matter "how" we share our stories, our pictures and our everyday life, just as long as we are doing it? I doubt my grandchildren are going to look back at my scrapbooks (that my son has so painstakingly preserved over the years) and say look at these, grandma didn't really scrapbook because she was digital. But then again, by the time my son is married (after his college career in hockey) everyone will be doing it digital.

I love my craft...
I love sharing my photos...
and our stories...
I love being with people who get it just as much as me...
I love that my life, my husband, my children and my job allow me time to do this...
digital is me and it has become a part of who I am.

and the inspiration to do this is everywhere!

now that I am finally getting caught up after getting my "a week in the life" album done and uploaded to shutterfly I wanted to share with you my layouts from last week's releases at Two Peas in a Bucket.

My sweet husband did a photo shoot for them and they gave their mom a 16x20 print of one of their favorites as a mother's day gift. I think this one looks like an album cover of sorts.

this past week was a small release at Two Peas in a Bucket but Betsy Tuma released some very cool products. These completely customizable "word weavers" let you use your own papers using fabulous templates. I love how my layout turned out! Kerry Stewart also had a companion release to her Track Team digital kit - these "sport clips" are so fun. I changed the color up a bit to work with my layout.

This past week I participated in "A Week in the Life" project inspired by Ali Edwards . I recorded a little bit of our everyday life and will be sharing it with you. Tonight I am just doing a bit of planning and layout design so I can dive right in to creating my album. So excited!

Catching up after a busy week

it seems the second week of the month is the busiest around my house, township meeting and all the prep, track practice and the first meet, Will's monthly meeting for work. I will always find time for photography and scrapbooking, because it really is a part of who I am everyday.

I was a bit thankful that we had a small release at Two Peas in a Bucket this past week. I can hardly resist to committing to a zillion projects and frankly I am darn tired.

Playoff hockey started as well - and needless to say a Eastern time zone team has no business playing in the West...games that don't end until well after midnight aren't helping me catch up with sleep at all. Wings really need to win tomorrow, although I don't feel as emotionally attached this year - they have had a rough season with so many injuries that just being in the playoffs makes me happy.

okay - on to my creative share this week . . . new kits by Kerry Stewart, Vinnie Pearce and Wilna Furstenberg got me pretty excited. They are all so fabulous.

I love that Digital Scrapbooking is my creative outlet..each evening, after Madison has gone to bed I am able to sit down and create. Sometimes for just a bit and sometimes I can't stop myself. Who needs sleep when you are creating : )

when I saw Vinnie Pearce's "Military Guy" digital kit this past week at Two Peas in a Bucket I knew I had to have it. The colors are perfect for my "15 year old - not so military guy", and I just love all the fun elements.

I also participated in a challenge this week, where a member of the digital creative team posts a challenge for our members. My sister finally sent us some photos of her sweet grandbaby Jenna - I couldn't wait to scrap. The challenge was to blend the photo into the background paper. I just love how this one turned out.

and finally because I can never get enough of that sweet baby girl Jenna, my last layout for the week featuring designs by Betsy Tuma. Her "Denim and Daisies" Digital kit has fabulous colors and gorgeous elements. This one came together rather easily.

I do! our MellyPea at two peas in a bucket had her baby girl on St Patrick's Day - Leighton Sheffield - and it got me thinking about my sweet babies and how long ago it was that I had a newborn baby to hold and snuggle. I still miss those days, just not the lack of sleep or being late for every single thing.

Pamela Funk-Parr for Scrap Originals released two new baby kits this past week at two peas in a bucket...Welcome Home girl and boy digi kits. I found and scanned a few pictures of my babies (now almost 15 and 13) so I could play too. I really wish I had unlimited hours so I could scan all my photos and then organize them all.

I also wanted to say I have so enjoyed working with ourDigital Creative Team. at Two Peas in a Bucket., each week I am blown away with the projects. I sometimes have to pinch myself so I am reminded that I am good enough to be a part of this!

the edge of summer (well at least maybe spring)

We have had quite a warm spell over the past 10 days....90% of our snow has melted and I am looking forward to spring rains and summer days - but I won't get too far ahead of myself because it is still winter here in the U.P. and I think they are calling for cooler temps and *SNOW* this coming weekend.

I found lots of scrapping time this past week - it is amazing how much time you can find if you just cut back a bit on sleeping : ) Working with the designers and Digital Creative Team. at Two Peas in a Bucket. has been fabulous. A new designer made her debut last week and all her digital kits are gorgeous and totally me. I was able to work with three of Pamela Funk-Parr. for scrap originals, kits. Kenner Road released some new elements and I love using Vinnie Pearce's "Give Me Simple Templates" as a starting point for my layouts.

my Township Board meeting ran really long last night so I am getting this posted a little late.

the digi kits each week at Two Peas in a Bucket. have been so inspiring, I want them all! but really have to limit my choices relating to how much time I will be able to actually scrap. Madison has been sick this past week so I have spent alot of time snuggling with her and scrapping during her naps or when I should be sleeping. Tomorrow will be more new releases, I can't wait.

My first layout features a recent photo of Hayden. *sigh* he is growing up so fast! before you know it he will be asking for the keys to the car. I don't think I am ready for that. My second layout was created using Vinnie Pearce's "Krafty Birthday Girl" digi kit. Madison has crazy hair just like her momma. I really need to get her in for a cut.

This layout features a photo I took last Spring! even though our snow is finally mealting, we still have a ton on the ground and no flowers blooming anywhere. Michelle Underwoods, "I heart Spring" page kit is so fun. Lots of bold colors and fabulous elements. Fall is my favorite season, but spring runs a close second.

and finally a little digi gift. These birds in the "fly away" digi kit by Wilna Furstenberg as just adorable. Her style is so whimsical and fun. I created this layout 8x8, printed it out and framed it in a white frame. My sister has a bird theme in her kitchen, it will make a perfect gift. I added Vinnie's brads to the journaling strips.

and a creative share....

when I think back two years ago when I first started digi..I really had no clue what I was doing, but I kept at it. I looked at tons of galleries on line and hung out with those I already knew who were doing digi too. Designer Digitals was a home away from home for me and even though I don't spend as much time there as I used to it is a fabulous place with wonderful friends and creative designers.

Spending time on line can be consuming (lol I am quite sure you know this) and you sometimes have to choose where you get to spend those few precious minutes. Since becoming a part of the Digital Creative Team at Two Peas in a Bucket., I have made new friends, renewed old friendships and found a really happy place. I miss the DD girls but still post when I can and share my digital designs. Isn't the sayin that "you never forget your first" . . .

This past week Vinnie Pearce joined Two Peas in a Bucket. as a Designer. She posted 73 new kits, so needless to say it was kinda like Christmas morning.... I created a ton this past week and still feel inspired. That is a really good thing : )

Bittersweet Ending . . . . . .

we got home this afternoon after our last weekend of hockey games with Hayden's U16 AA Midget Team. It was a bittersweet ending to what has been a season of growth for Hayden. We started this process in August of last year, tryouts, practice, preseason and finally acceptance. Being on a team made up of players who have much more experience, age and size was a challenge that he took on without hesitation. He belonged on this team and by season end proved it to anyone who might have questioned his choice.

We played three games this weekend, tied the first game, won the second and lost the third this morning. that's it - over. I have enjoyed being a part of this with Hayden and can't wait to see where we end up next year.

We got home about 1:30, just enough time to tidy up a bit, unpack, get Madison settled and watch the Gold Medal game in Ice Hockey between Team USA and Canada. The fact that they tied it with less than 30 seconds left should have left me delighted, but to be honest, I HATE sudden death overtime in hockey. All out crazy end-to-end action only to have it all abruptly end. I can't even think about how this ended and who was responsible for the game winning goal for Team Canada. Not bitter, I just don't like overrated players.

so we will now settle in to the off season for Hayden. He will concentrate on keeping his grades up, plan a workout routine with his dad and work hard so that come next August, when we start this process all over again, he will be stronger, faster and much more experienced.

I love hockey!!

I love it especially because the media pretty much already had Russia vs. Canada for the Gold Medal game. They get to meet, but in the Quarter-Finals baby!! Go Team USA!!!

I was able to participate in an on-line crop at Two Peas in a Bucket. and I was pretty productive. Typically at crops, regardless if they are in person or on-line, I pretty much spend all my time chatting rather than scrapping....but the challenge was fun so I was motivated to play and being that we will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks the layout was fitting.

I got to play with Shelley Castillio's "Spring Fling" papers for this layout:

Jen Martakis has a fabulous template line that she is designing, called White Space - I love templates and their ability to act as a starting point for a layout. This one is White Space #4, resized a bit to work with my photos.

The last layout I finished yesterday. Just an everyday photo of Hayden in the snow. Erica Hernandez's Letter Template #29 (rotated to work with my photo) is such a cool template that works well for masculine photos as well.

first I can hardly believe it is February already. I really think the older you get the faster time goes by, when in reality it shouldn't because I have much more to do each day.

My second project features my new shoes. I know my husband doesn't think I ever need new but when you find them on sale at Target, well I bet you know what I mean. Jen Martakis' new Digital Kit - February was the perfect touch of whimsey I needed.

I love to layer and add brushes but I sometimes have to remind myself that it is okay to stop and be done.

Yesterday we celebrated Madison's 13th birthday. I really don't know where the time went. Seems like just yesterday we were spending all our time in the NICU at Marquette General Hospital helping our very small and sweet baby girl grow strong so she could come home to her big brother Hayden.

We had two hockey games home first. Just before the second game, the team surprised Madison with a pretty special cake. It said "our #1 fan is 13" - pretty neat to think even these rough teenager boys can think about something else besides hockey.

after the games (we won both and are now 23-3-5 for the season) we rushed home and then went over to grandma and grandpa's house for pizza and more cake. It ended up being too much for Madison who was tired and ready to be home. We had to cut her party short and opened gifts at home.

seems like my winter weeks involve dropping Madison off at school, going to work, picking up Madison at school, doing something related to hockey and scrapbooking. I am trying to find a little time in between to catch up on laundry, cleaning and paperwork. Being busy helps keep my creative juices flowing and with all the new releases each week at Two Peas in a Bucket. I need to stay on top of my mojo.

each Tuesday I am excited to see what the Designers at Two Peas in a Bucket. will bring. I am so fortunate I get to work with these. Being a part of the Digital Creative Team. has been a blessing. It really pushes me as a Designer and helps me branch out from what is comfortable, what is safe.

This week my fun hybrid project was creating a mini diary/journal. I decided to make it a photography journal where I can record a little bit about each photo I took for the day for my Project 365-2010. Erica did a fantastic job putting this little lovely together.

I little bit of creating

I am behind as usual and Christmas is only four days away. I did have a chance to work on my projects for Two Peas in a Bucket. yesterday. The boys were gone all day and it felt good to just spend a day being creative and the fact that one of them is going to be a special gift is an added bonus.

This first project features a new kit by Jen Martakis - This Year. I have been so inspired by Jen's creative designs. A sneak peek of what is coming in the store tomorrow was posted on her blog.

This layout was created using one of Kate Teague's Year in Review templates. I love using templates as a starting point for my designs. This one was resized, I changed up the title and added some embellishments.

The last layout is part of Simply Beautiful Desk Top CD Calender kit by Jen Martakis. My sister Jennifer was married this past summer. I created this for her. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I already had edited photos, so I just had to add them to each month.

An update, some layouts and a trip

We had a busy week . . finally got some snow and the cold weather has set in. Hayden started a new trimester at school after surviving his first high school final exams experience. We thought he did great and am happy with his progress and final grades. This trimester should be a bit easier for him, a lighter load and fun classes.

I got some fabulous kits to work with this week as a Digital Creative Team member for Two Peas in a Bucket. Jen Martakis released "simply beautiful" papers and elements and Betsy Tuma released some pretty cool edge effects.

We have two hockey games in Marquette tomorrow - Hayden's team plays Houghton at 9:30 and 1:30 at the Berry Events Center at Northern Michigan University. After we get home we are packing the car and heading out to St. Paul for a couple of days. Madison has a follow-up appointment with her orthopedic surgeon Tuesday am at Gillette Childrens Speciality Healthcare.. We may even get in a bit of Christmas shopping at the outlets at Woodbury or the Mall of America.

Hello December

well that was fast! It seems that as I get older days, weeks and months go by so fast. Hayden is already talking about driving and Madison will be 13 next month! so hard to believe. This would be one of the reasons that I scrapbook. I need to capture the moments, record the memories, and tell our story. If I don't, then who will?

Last year I participated in a December Daily challenge at Designer Digitals. I committed to taking photos and doing a layout for each day in December. I then uploaded my project to Shutterflyand my book was shipped. Memories preserved.

I am doing it again this year and started a support group at Two Peas in a Bucket
I am not sure I can complete a layout everyday, but I am going to take the photos and record the memories. If I don't complete my project until January of next year, that is okay.

So, as I prepare to accomplish this, I will leave you with a link to my book from last year . . . let me know what you think and if you are joining me on this journey, let me know.

December Daily 2008

Thankful

We had so much to be thankful for this year. Thanksgiving vacation is almost over and it will be back to work and school for 3 weeks until we arrive at Christmas. Every year we try to be prepared so we aren't doing this last minute, but then what would we have to look forward to besides a whirlwind 21 days of prep.

I am going to make a list (in order of importance) and tackle it head on.

This past week, the two peas in a bucket Digital Creative Team got to work on our first new releases. I posted two projects using Betsy Tuma's Sweather Weather-his Alphabet and The Extras.

Weekend Hockey Update

We spent this past weekend in St. Ignace, right rear the Mackinac Bridge for a round robin tounament. It is such a fabulous little community but this time of year it is pretty quiet. Many of the hotels, restaurants and shops are closed for the season. Needless to say we didn't have much to do besides be at the rink anyway.

The other teams present were the host team, St Ignace, a team from Grand Rapids and a team from Bloomfield. We play two games on Saturday and one game Sunday and ended up with a 2-0-1 record. We tied St Ignace 4-4 in the early game Saturday, and beat Grand Rapids 2-1. On Sunday we played Bloomfield and won 3-0. Overall it was a pretty successful weekend and Hayden had a really good game on Sunday.

We are off for the Thanksgiving Holiday this coming weekend, but will then resume our every weekend schedule.

Just a few photos of Hayden - I like the red uniforms the best, and it is fitting that his number is 14 - since he is the only 14 year old on the team (but he plays like he is 16, lol - this would be according to some of his teammates.)

Tomorrow I hope to get some layouts done for my 2 Peas digital creative team assisgnments. I will post as soon as I get done.

Digital Scrapbooking : )

So you are ready to try Digital Scrapbooking.....

It is about time don’t you think? I scrapped more in the past 18 months since I went digital than I did in the previous 8 years. I have done several custom photobooks at Shutterfly and made more gifts than I thought was possible.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know: Since I started on posting on Facebook and sharing some of my digital scrapbooking layouts, I have had a few requests from friends who are ready to get started. The first question always is “where do I begin”?

This post is one of many in which I will try and answer that question : )

First, you need a good computer system with a high end graphics card and lots of memory and storage (you need a big place to store all those scrapping supplies and finished layouts). I always recommend that you also invest in an EHD (external hard drive), as a back-up system to your photos and supplies. Hard drives fail (more often than anyone really cares to admit) and you need to be prepared. I also subscribe to an off site recovery service. It is an affordable solution for recovery when you need it. (because at some point you will).

Next, purchase a software program. Right now I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 . They just released 9.0, but I don’t have enough information to determine whether or not I should upgrade right now. There is always a learning curve when you do an upgrade and frankly I don’t have the time either. You can also invest in Photoshop CS (a much bigger investment). A lot of online stores offer student discounts for software purchases, anyone who is or has a child who is a student qualifies). I also have Lightroom by Adobe for all my photo processing. I love the presets with this program and can’t imagine editing photos without it.

Next, install the software and just play. I am a self taught digital designer after doing “traditional” scrapbooking for years. I learn something new just about every day.

Search the internet for digital freebies - this is the best way to get some supplies to get you started until you discover your own style and figure out what you want to purchase. I also have a spending budget each month. It is pretty easy to go overboard with so many new releases each week. Unless there is a really big sale, I do my best to stay within my budget. Lord knows you can never have enough stitches or brushes.

So many fabulous opportunities have happened to me since I went over to the digi side of scrapbooking and for that I am thankful. But most of all I am glad that I am recording the everyday things about our little family. Someday I think my kids are going to appreciate that.

Okay, I think that is a ton of information for today. Get started and let me know if you have any specific questions. I will do my best to try and answer them and if I can’t, at least steer you in the right direction.

Hockey ramblings......

one of my favorite things about Will not coaching Hayden's hockey team this year is that he gets to actually watch the game and take photos. We specifically bought our high end zoom lens with that in mind. Taking photos in hockey rinks can be a challenge, adjusting to the lighting, dealing with the protective glass and safety netting is always something you need to figure out. This photo was taken at the Cornerstone Ice Center in Green Bay. We love the big rink there, lots of room for photos at a lot of different angles. I love that Will was able to capture this shot, the exact moment that Hayden's goal went into the net. You can see that the goalie didn't even move his glove yet. . . Hayden was pretty excited that he scored and we were pretty excited that we captured it on film.

today will mark two weeks since we tragically lost our sweet Callie. Every day since the accident has gotten easier, we aren't crying anymore and aren't constantly thinking about our loss.

I was so delighted that I had the camera in the car when we decided to go through the car wash last week. I debated because Madison is just never quite sure about the car wash - but she did great. I love this photo of her, she knew the hard spray of water was coming.....and wow - look at the colors of the soap.

this is a photo of just a small portion of my very neglected scrap space. I have a wonderful spot built just for me when we built our master bedroom addition. Shortly after I found digital : ) but I have held on to so much for too long and I am ready to start letting it go. We just bought a new Dell desktop system and I am ready to reclaim the space for my digi scrapping....Edited to add: I have been digi scrapping exclusively for almost 2 years!! my stuff has been ignored for about that long, although I do stop in at least once a week to dust and borrow my good scissors : )

so I plan to fill up a Flat Rate Priority Mail box of paper scrap goodness and ship it off to one (or maybe two). Just leave a comment here. I will keep it open til 8:00 p.m. (est) Sunday and then pick a winner.
